The Best Friend’s Guide to Pregnancy Pt 1: Physical Changes

by Goddess Leonie on March 22, 2010

Because I’m 38.5 weeks pregnant,

and I have a lot of things to say,

but my belly doesn’t want me to sit and type all day.

So I made you a video.

With all the juicy, juicy goddess gossip…

of all the things that you wish your best friend told you about pregnancy.

Part One is all about the physical changes no one tells you about.

Until now.

Best Friend’s Guide to Pregnancy – Part One – the Physical Changes from Goddess Leonie on Vimeo.

Probably not safe for work. I don’t know. I talk about nipples. Is that safe for work?

Oh yes. You are welcome, bambinos.

Sharing is caring.

big love you,

You are gorgeous! I love your enthusiastic documentary style!! It’s all true!
In the style of ‘things your besties should tell you’…. one thing for me was I found it impossible to pee for ages after giving birth, something to do with nerves and things getting squished around with everything going on down there. Anyway sometimes now I practise weeing in the shower just to make sure I can do it at will!! Oh dear that’s so bizarre isn’t it. I am working on being the master of my bladder!!!!
Also after Little Mermiad arrives you will still look about 6 months pregnant for a while. But it’s all squishy :-)
Oh dear, TMI?
And about 4 months after little mermaid arrives you will be able to weave baskets from the amount of hair that starts falling out of your head! And then you start growing new tufty bits of hair around your temples! Since you’re curly like me they will probably look like little cow horns for a while! Te he!
One other thing I wanted to say was think about giving mums group a chance…… I keep thinking about something you said in another post about not wanting to join something designed for bitching about husbands etc….. but thinking about my experience, I reckon it it the closest thing to a womens circle I’ve experienced….. so much honesty, support, raw emotion, sharing, empathy and collective wisdom. They’re girls I would never have met in my other life but mothers group has been one of the best experiences of my becoming a mum. It’s so cool to share experiences with other mums with babies of similar age. The number of times I went and said “gosh this thing has been happening” and someone else said “oh yes me too” – so many “me too” moments! And its so sweet to see the babies growing up together. It’s not for everyone but it might be amazing!
Big love to you xoxoxoxoxoxo

ROTFLMAO, way to go Leonie!

And yes, definately embrace the commando! Highly recommend it! Been doing it for years and yes, it is great!

And completely agree about the boobs! It was my boobs that gave it away to me that I was pregnant. The tingling and the darkening started happening straight away. Very odd. I actually thought I may have had cancer at first and then when I told a lady at work, she laughed at me and told me I was pregnant. That was at 3 weeks along lol.

Keep up the great work! Can’t wait for part 2!

Oh! Fun! Can I add one?
All through the third trimester I was super-ridiculously wet “down there.” Like, wearing a pad all the time wet. Apparently that can happen. No idea why.

Oh! And constipation in the first trimester? Totally normal. Good times, good times.

You’re welcome :-P

I loved the book ‘Up The Duff’ by Kaz Cooke, she is hilarious but it was also very up to date and accurate and the thing I loved about it was she writes just like that! You are so bubbly and hilarious! I’d like to add to that HOLY STRETCHMARKS!!! I massaged my belly with cocoa butter and vitamin E oil and in the last few weeks I was just out of the shower and admiring my huge belly when I noticed a big red line which I thought was a scratch so I got my partner to have a look for me (like I said, HUGE belly) and it was a stretchmark! Then within days there were hundreds, it was like the floodgates had opened! They do fade to little silvery reminders and you don’t miss your pre-pregnancy belly as much as your pregnant belly! Be prepared to look like one of those Goddess water features when you shower, the warm water gets the milk flowing, both at once! That would be an awesome water feature outside a maternity hospital!
