The One Thing That Changed My Business

Hola gorgeous hearts!

One of the things that really inspired me (+ still does) when I’m down in the salt mines of my business, trying to work out the next step, is listening to the stories of other business women who’ve been where I am + have had an insight that’s helped them along.

With that in mind, I’ve asked a number of gorgeous, inspired, soulful business women to share their sacred AHA! moment – of the thing that changed their business.

Today’s insight is for anyone who needs some myth busting around common business “rules.”

Lots of love,

Create an amazing business and life by busting five big myths.

I’m honoured, excited and delighted to share with you the 5 myths that held me back from creating an amazing life and business.  Leonie Dawson’s work has helped me to bust these myths, to break them down and transform them completely, leaving fertile ground for a beautiful new life and business to grow.  Woo hoo! Lets go smash some things holding us back 🙂

Myth #1 – You Have to Hide Who You Really Are

This is probably the biggest and most beautiful lesson I have learned from Leonie and it can be summarised in two words “Be Yourself”.

  • No one else can be you ever in the entire existence of the universe.
  • You have things to share that no one else ever has or ever will.
  • Being yourself will feel better than trying to be someone else.
  • You will be better able to serve the people you are here to serve because you will give what only you have to give.
  • In doing so you will give other people permission to be their awesome selves.

Leonie’s  colourful spirited work is so appealing because it is so unique and because she is so genuinely herself.  This is the greatest gift we have to offer, to be our unique selves.  To do what lights us up and share it around.   The world is hungry for it.  Myth #1 busted. Be yourself.

Myth #2 – Having a Business Will Take Over Your Life

Leonie has shown by example that it is possible to create a business that supports and enriches you your life, rather than taking it over.

Having a business can give you passion, purpose and expression and can fit around the other essential parts of your life.

You can create a business that works for you, in your unique situation.  Leonie has done this for herself and through her work shares so many lessons she has learned along the way, to assist us in doing the same for ourselves. I was initially wary of how a business would fit into my family life, but now I see that it completes it perfectly.  Because I can create my business to be what I need it to be.  Working on it inspires me and feeds me. My business helps not hinders me in living a balanced healthy life and my whole family benefits.  You can create a business that supports you and nourishes what’s important to you.

Myth #3 – Money=Ick

I’ll never forget the morning I read this post by Leonie:

It was a total life changer for me.

Because of the state of the world I use to be wary of money to the point of avoiding earning any.   Now I realise that earning money doing something you love that helps people is a sacred exchange that nurtures both the giver and the receiver.  I  can earn money in ways that don’t trash the earth and earning money allows me to make ethical investments I could never make other wise.

The more money I earn the more I can invest in sustainable options, such as solar power, organic food, local handmade products.  The more I can be generous towards people and causes I care about. My dandelion birthday candle wish has been for a long time now “Peace in all our hearts, healthy communities, healthy earth.”  There are many ways we can work towards this that don’t involve money.   But money doesn’t have to be ick, it all depends on how we earn it and what we do with it.

Earning money can = helping people + investing in a healthier world.

Myth #4 – Projects Must be PERFECT and Therefore Take Forever and Never Actually Get Finished

Ride wild donkeys. Nothing more needs to be said.  Ride the wild energy of your projects then let them free in the world.

Myth #5 – We Must Work Our Butts Off and Put Everything Else Before Our Health

I am immensely grateful for this most important lesson for business and life.

Everything you create, everything you have to give depends on you. You being healthy, well and thriving.

Put self care first and then see the miracles you can create when you are nourished, body and soul.  It will blow your mind.  If you are not in the habit of taking care of yourself don’t beat yourself up if you fall into old habits and get drained.  Just pay attention to what it feels like.  Then look for ways you can meet your needs and nurture yourself.

The more you nurture yourself the more you will see the pay off in all areas of your life.  Everyone will thank you for it, you will thank yourself for it, your business will thank you for it.  Self care rocks the world big time.

So there you go, nurture yourself, create what you are here to create, change the world by being you.  Create your amazing life, create what you want to see grow in the world.  Here’s to peace in all our hearts, healthy communities, and a healthy Earth.

Love and best dandelion wishes,

profile picI’ve loved writing ever since I learned how, and lately my children have been teaching me to take having fun seriously.   Over the last few years I’ve written picture books, junior and adult fiction, poetry and songs.  I have been studying creative writing through Charles Sturt University, and organise and run workshops for a natural learning collective.  I’m preparing to launch a business that nurtures mamas who write by supporting them in creativity, connection and completion of their writing work.  You can visit my new website here: to receive a special prerelease copy of my ebook Writing by the Moon: A writing practice for a peaceful, passionate, productive writing life (because I’m in a wild donkey riding kind of mood).
