Day Zero (The Day Before I Started)

I wanted to share about something different today – weight loss and health goals. I’ve been hesitant to talk about this publicly, mostly because I hate diet culture.

It also feels weird to talk about weight loss because so often the conversation is entwined with self confidence and self love.

Here’s the thing: I radically and wildly love every single cell of my body. I’ve never really felt anything but stupidly lucky to be able to inhabit the body I have. My body is a divine creation, and I do not believe it needs to be any different from what it is to be worthy, loveable and lovely.

And, at the same time, I know it’s time for a big, hard and beautiful change. I need to lose quite a bit of weight, for two reasons: I have hyper mobility which causes my bones to dislocate, and recent data shows losing excess weight is one of the biggest ways to improve immunity against and reduce complications from Covid-19.

If you’ve been around these parts for long enough you’ll know I was horrifically ill for six months in 2016 with whatever doctors later realised was likely swine flu. I know Covid is even worse than Swine, so I’d really rather not have that experience again.

Plus, adventures await in the future. I want to take them easily and nimbly. So it’s time to love myself into a new form of my glorious, gorgeous body.

Starting tomorrow, I’m going on Dr Michael Mosley’s Fast 800 program. I know it’s going to be hard work, and I might fall off the wagon. But I wanted to share this goal with you all to push all my overachiever buttons into action.

I want to do this with love, energy and courage. AND I’ll try to share what I can here, if I don’t turn into a full fasting hermit.
