The Message

by Leonie Dawson on October 28, 2010

{Hola gorgeous goddess…
I just found this story of a healing I received in Dreaming Land while I was still pregnacious…
and I wanted to share it with you…}

Last night, I go to bed after working and worrying way too much.

I clamber around, looking for the miracle cure.

Inside me, a voice says:
Enough. Use your tools, Leonie.
And so I do.
I stream the list of tools in my head I can use, and I remember:
Call your elders.
My body lights up at the thought.
Oh goodie. It is time to go home.
I turn my lamp off, and I call my elders to me.
Elders, please be with me. Please surround me. Please give me the healing and teachings I need right now.
I feel their presence all around me.
And then I see a crystal mountain in front of me.
I walk up it, and half way there, I see a wooden see-saw balance on a rock. It rocks back and forth, back and forth.
There is something profound about this see-saw. I sit on the ground to watch it, and listen to its medicine.
This is the way you are right now, Leonie. Up and down, up and down, teetering this way and that way.
It is time to do things differently now.
And I see the see-saw becoming stable, and whole, and grounded to the earth, a soft place to be.
I study it some more, letting it weave its onion meanings and depths into me.
When I am ready, I walk the rest of the path to the top of the mountain.
There, among the sky and breeze and light, there is a white pillared open-wall temple.
My elders are gathered there.
I lay down in the centre, and feel their hands over me – my face, my body, my limbs.
I am given a healing.
Great surges of light wash over me, like waves of rain,
and as they do,
I feel the little mermaid inside me
swishing her mermaid tail strongly
in time with each healing wave.
The moment stands still, the cosmos lights up,
and I smile at just what a miracle this life is…
just how loved we all are…
how healing is just around the corner…
we only need to listen..
AHO! to you dear goddess sister,

Oil Burner

Hola gorgeous Goddess!

Yesterday the gorgeous Goddess Gina shared her Top 7 essential oils to heal anxiety… and today we’ll be learning new ways to use them!

Yippee! This is like going to a sweet lil healing class together… pens & paper out, darlinghearts! Let’s become mega-wise healing goddesses!

I am going to tell you a couple simple ways for you to incorporate Aromatherapy to help you reduce anxiety. You can use any of the essential oils above by themselves, or combine them to create your own aromatic oasis blend. You may also have a favorite essential oil that you like to use for anxiety relief that you can incorporate in the following ways as well:

1. A Blissful Soak

Taking a nice warm bath in general is very calming to both your mind and body, but when you add essential oils to the bath water, you have just amped up the anxiety relieving power of a bath. To a full tub of warm bath water, add 6-10 drops total of one essential oil or of an essential oil blend, swish it around and enjoy your bath. You can also dilute your essential oil or blend in powdered milk, dead sea salts or a base oil such as sweet almond oil before adding to your bath if you have sensitive skin.

2. An Aromatic Rub

This is one of my favorite ways to use Aromatherapy for anxiety relief because not only are you inhaling the scent which will help relax your mind, but you are also massaging the body oil onto your skin which is relaxing and calming to your body. Plus your skin gets hydrated! You can also use your body oil as a bath oil and to massage your hands and feet before you go to bed which is a total anxiety buster as well. I do this practically every night right before I go to bed. Body oils are one of the first Aromatherapy products I ever made. To make your own, add a total of 9-15 drops of essential oils to a 1 ounce bottle with a flip top or screw cap. Then fill the rest of the bottle with a base such as jojoba, sunflower oil or sweet almond oil. Put the cap on, shake gently and poof! You have your own handmade aromatic body rub.

3. Aromatic Atmospheres

You can use a candle or electric diffuser to disperse your chosen essential oil or essential oil blend into the air and this will also have a calming effect on your senses. You could diffuse
your essential oil blend in your bedroom right before you go to bed for a really peaceful nights sleep. Just be sure to blow the candle or unplug your diffuser right before you go to bed! There are also personal fan diffusers that run by battery which I use and love as well. I use it when I am working on my computer so to stay calm and focused especially when I am on the
computer for a long period of time.

**Special note: Be sure to follow the directions that came with your diffuser.

4. Tootsie Treat

A foot bath is so calming! To a basin of water add 5- 7 drops of an essential oil or blend with or without sea salts. When you take care of your feet, your whole body relaxes. If you have ever had a good foot reflexology session, you will know what I mean. You can layer on the anxiety relief by massaging body oil on your feet after you are done with your foot bath. This is great to do at night to wind down from the stresses of your day and to help you sleep better as well.

5. Aroma Spritzer

Add 12-15 drops of your essential oil or essential oil blend to 1 ounce distilled, filtered or spring water in a sprayer bottle. Shake, close your eyes and mist around you whenever needed, avoiding the face area. This is something you can take with you and use throughout the day. If you are really feeling crazy and creative, use rose water in place of the distilled, filtered or spring water – you will be in absolute heavenly bliss!

Bonus: Pull, Twist, Sniff!

Inhale your essential oil or blend right from the bottle itself. If you are out and about and begin to feel anxious, just reach for your essential oil or blend, open the cap and inhale! Ahh, instant stillness.

Anxiety-Busting Aromatherapy

Change………..it’s everywhere! And if you are reading these words, then most likely you have experienced some sort of change during your lifetime.

During times of change, anxiety levels rise. But you will be happy to know that you have an ally when it comes to working through anxiety, and that ally is Aromatherapy!

Aromatherapy is a wonderful healing tool to help relieve anxiety. How do I know? Because I have experienced these healing benefits first hand in my own journey with anxiety.

In this article, you will discover my top 7 essential oils to reduce anxiety and tomorrow, I’ll share 5 ways in which you can put these magic essences to work for you!

But first let me tell you what Aromatherapy is and what essential oils are.

Here is a definition of Aromatherapy as defined by Robert Tisserand:

“Aromatherapy is a caring, hands-on therapy which seeks to induce
relaxation, to increase energy, to reduce the effects of stress and to restore
lost balance to mind, body and soul.”

He also goes on to say that:

“Aromatherapy conveys the concept of healing with aromatic
substances.”

“Essential oils, as defined by The National Association for Holistic
Aromatherapy, are the highly concentrated aromatic extracts which are
distilled from a variety of aromatic plant material including grasses,
leaves, flowers, needles & twigs, peel of fruit, wood and roots.”

How lucky are we to have these amazing, healing and wonderful-smelling essences at our fingertips? Muy lucky!

So how can you transform anxiety with aromatherapy?

By using your senses as a pathway to presence!

Namely by using your sense of smell to catapult you into the present
moment.

Let’s use the example of warm cinnamon buns just coming out
of the oven. I can smell them already! Can you? Since your brain can only
think one thought at a time, you cannot think ‘I’m so anxious’, at the same
time you are thinking, ‘Mmmm, those cinnamon buns smell scrumptious’.

Scent stops your thoughts in its tracks.

Need another example? Ok…..you are doing something in your house by a
window which is open. The scent of a skunk comes flowing through your
window and right up your nose. Need I say more? :)

7 Essential Oils To Use!

Let’s now go over my top 7 essential oils for anxiety relief. By
no means is this an all-inclusive list of essential oils that can be used for
anxiety. Everyone is different when it comes to scents. I invite you to
experiment with these and other essential oils to see what works best for
you. But these are good ones to start with due to their calming effects.

Essential oils have many naturally occurring chemical components to them
and the ones that have a more calming and sedative effect are those that
contain a higher percentage of esters. However, essential oils are made
up of many different chemical components and that is why one essential
oil may have numerous benefits and these benefits can help various body
systems such as digestive, circulatory, the skin etc.

**Important Note: Before using any essential oils, check with your medical
practitioner if you have any health concerns or conditions or if you are
pregnant or nursing. You can also check out more about
aromatherapy and essential oil safety information here
.

Ok, now on to the top 7 essential oils for anxiety relief.

1. Ylang ylang

Ylang ylang is sweet, exotic, floral and a little spicy. It is
known to be an aphrodisiac. It is calming to the nervous system and brings
harmony to the mind and helps relieve restlessness and agitation. Ylang
ylang is a tropical evergreen tree & the essential oil comes from the flowers.

2. Bergamot

Bergamot helps to calm and relax the senses as well as
aiding with emotional imbalances which tend to be activated during times
of change. Its scent is refreshing and uplifting, yet relaxing. Bergamot has
a beautiful fresh, fruity-floral aroma. This essential oil comes from the rind
of citrus fruit which is still unripe and green from the bitter orange tree.

3. Geranium rose

Geranium rose relaxes the nerves and calms anxiety.
It helps keep you centered and at ease which is very welcoming to many
during times of change. It has a sweet, floral, rose-like scent. Extra side
note…it is also excellent for balancing the hormones.

4. Mandarin

Mandarin has a calming effect on the central nervous system. You can also substitute sweet orange essential oil which is usually easier to find because it is more popular. Sweet orange is uplifting and beneficial for sadness, nervousness and anxiety.

**Special Note: Mandarin, sweet orange and bergamot are all phototoxic meaning it should not be used on your skin if you are going to be outdoors in the sun because it can cause extra sensitivity in your skin.

5. Sandalwood

Sandalwood’s main element is the earth element so it is very grounding, being rooted in stillness and prayer. It has a sweet, woody, musk-like scent and has a calming effect on the nervous system making it another wonderful essential oil for anxiety relief. Sandalwood is an evergreen tree and the essential oil is extracted from the tree’s heartwood.

**Special Note: I use only the santalum spicatum Sandalwood species
due to the fact that Sandalwood has become endangered due to the over-
harvesting of the trees for its aromatic oil.

6. Roman Chamomile

Roman chamomile has a very distinct scent. It is sweet and slightly fruity. When using this essential oil it is best to add one drop at a time because of its stronger scent which can overtake
a blend. Roman chamomile is known to help with relieving stress of any kind, including anxiety, which makes it one of your greatest allies in Aromatherapy. It also is known to help with chronic tension and insomnia. Roman chamomile is one of several species of herbs with daisy-like flowers which is where the essential oil is obtained.

7. Lavender

The last essential oil but not least for reducing anxiety is Lavender. Lavender is known as the Swiss army knife of essential oils because it is useful for so many ailments. It helps with almost any imbalance and is a great addition to your first aid kit. I keep a small vial of it in my purse just in case I get any minor cuts or burns or even to just inhale it right from the vial when I am feeling anxious. It has a rich, sweet, herbaceous, floral scent. Lavender is a very fragrant shrub and its essential oil is obtained from the flowers.

So now you know about ze top 7 anxiety-busting essential oils… tomorrow, Goddess Gina be teaching you how to use them! Tune in then, lovely aromatherapy healing goddess!

big big love you!
