Bringing the Magic to Your Biz!

The One Thing That Changed My Business

Hola gorgeous hearts!

One of the things that really inspired me (+ still does) when I’m down in the salt mines of my business, trying to work out the next step, is listening to the stories of other business women who’ve been where I am + have had an insight that’s helped them along.

With that in mind, I’ve asked a number of gorgeous, inspired, soulful business women to share their sacred AHA! moment – of the thing that changed their business.

Today’s insight is for anyone looking for a little permission to do what feels best to you in your biz!

Lots of love,

Bringing the Magic to Your Biz!

How many Awesome Mentors can you have while building your 5-year-old business? Mine have racked up just within the past year!

One is the beautiful Leonie Dawson.

Around the time I discovered Leonie, I had signed up as a consultant for an essential oils company. These certified pure oils were a PERFECT fit to my holistic skincare + energy healing business, and I was so excited to be with them!

As I was researching additional uses for one particular oil blend, I came across another consultant’s blog. In her post was a really cute + whimsical art image of a Business Workbook Planner… by Leonie! This consultant planned on using it to build her business in 2012. Adorable! I want one!!!

Down the rabbit hole I went…

I started to read Leonie’s blog posts and watch her videos.

My first reaction: “She’s a little kooky, but I love her!” 😉

It only took me about a week to decide to join her Goddess Circle (now the Amazing Biz & Life Academy). I was itching to get my hands on her Business Goddess e-course, apply it to my biz, and connect with other amazing women in the community!

Fast-forward One Year Later + One Message That Changed My Business!

Leonie offered a free coaching call to her Academy members. Hello, her one-on-one coaching calls are usually $1,000, so YES! I wanted to be on this free call!

As The Universe would have it, the night before the call, major insomnia hit me. The angels were extremely excited with ideas for my business path. Giving in, I flowed with it, wrote everything down, and read a biz book before hitting the couch to get maybe 3-4 hours of sleep.

I woke up in time to have a little late breakfast and hopped on the coaching call. Details are fuzzy regarding the call, but one of Leonie’s answers stuck out + came back to me when I was struggling just several weeks later. Whether I was dreaming or not, it proved to be exactly what I needed to hear.

The question submitted had to do with whether to create a Facebook business page or how often they should post — I don’t remember the question exactly, but I will *never* forget Leonie’s response. After a quick giggle, she said in her most loving way:

“Do whatever the fuhk you want! …Do what feels right.”

That response, I feel, sums up Leonie’s being and what she offers us as entrepreneurs and in our soul’s journey.

Be in alignment. Listen to your intuition. Listen to your heart.

Too many of us live in fear. Fear of what others will think of us, our journey, and who we are. So, we just try to blend in with everyone else.

Have you ever considered that the people around you or who come to you, are seeking your exact being? Grant them Your Uniqueness!

My business has made some twists and turns, as I went from titles of “Licensed Esthetician + Energy Healer” to “Reiki-Facialist” to “Inner Goddess Life Coach + Intuitive Healer” and currently to “Life Beauty Mystic.”

Our intuition leads us into the uniqueness we display — not only in our interaction with others, but also through the services we offer, and the voice that comes through in our online content.

The message that came through in Leonie’s answer is:

If you’re not feeling it — if it doesn’t feel like Your Truth — don’t do it!

If my energy is not there to be on social media, or there’s a lack of Joy or Inspiration when it comes time to post a blog, I don’t do it. I write and post when I’m inspired and I can be of service.

We attract the energy we put out there. So, Live in Your Truth!

In these early years of business I’ve learned the more specific and true to my nature I become (read: the more *I* show up), the more my ideal clients shows up, and the more easily I’m able to love Life doing what I LOVE!

…”Doing whatever the fuhk I want” and “Doing what feels right.”

Leading By Example in Biz & Life

The One Thing That Changed My Business

Hola gorgeous hearts!

One of the things that really inspired me (+ still does) when I’m down in the salt mines of my business, trying to work out the next step, is listening to the stories of other business women who’ve been where I am + have had an insight that’s helped them along.

With that in mind, I’ve asked a number of gorgeous, inspired, soulful business women to share their sacred AHA! moment – of the thing that changed their business.

Today’s insight is for anyone looking to balance biz + life while remaining true to their desires.

Lots of love,

Leading By Example in Biz & Life

I followed Leonie’s blog posts for years before finally taking the leap to join her Amazing Biz + Life Academy late last year. The value I’ve received from this membership is priceless. Between the e-courses and the active masterminds, I’ve learned so much, and I’ve connected with a number of friendly and interesting women in business.

Leonie is very talented at holding a space for like-minded women to interact and grow. The masterminds are a truly safe place to share issues, challenges, and questions on both life and business. And I think it’s important to remember that this community is all thanks to Leonie: for creating and holding this space, and for attracting such a wonderful group of women.

The best business lesson that I’ve learned from Leonie is perhaps not one single thing that I read in her blog, heard in a group coaching call, or learned from one of her e-courses. It’s Leonie herself. Leonie is a talented woman who has created a heart-centered business focused on helping other women.

In other words, it’s my ideal business model.

Leonie is one of three women in business who I most admire, and I am constantly learning from her examples: the business and life challenges that she shares in her blog, the wealth of knowledge in her How to Be a Business Goddess e-course, and her tips on how to grow a business in her How to Hire, Grow, and Keep a Shining Six-Figure Team e-course. She shares intimate details of both her personal and business lives that serve as an inspiring example for other women in business, including myself.

And it’s thanks to Leonie that I know that it really is possible to build a successful online business that can help thousands of women around the world. I see her example every day online, whether it’s in the Academy, on social media, or on her blog. She’s constantly providing an example of business success that we can follow, if we choose to do so.

And she does it all in less than four hours a day.

This is the second thing I love about Leonie and her business: she fits her business into her personal life, rather than cramming stolen moments with her family around a hectic business. Her family is a priority, and she ensures that she has several hours a day to enjoy with them. She’s very open about this on her blog, and on social media.

It’s easy for us to see just how fulfilling her life is, as she puts all the cards on the table for us to see. This also makes it easy to learn by the example of her personal life. She puts it all out there.

To sum it all up, the absolute best business lesson I’ve learned from Leonie is that:

It’s possible to have a heart-centered online business and a rich personal life at the same time.

And that’s exactly what I want for my own business: to help others while still having enough time to enjoy my personal life.

Having Leonie’s business as an example of my ideal business model has changed me, my life, and my business. It helps me ensure that I don’t get off track with side projects that don’t fit into my business ideal. And it also helps inspire me when business hits a slow period or a dip.

I truly believe that there will be more successful women in business once there are more women who are open about all aspects of their business and personal lives, and how they’ve managed to balance the two in a way that works for them. Building a business is easier when learning by example, because of the clear proof that it’s possible. And when the model business owner also teaches how to be successful based on her example, that makes it all the better.

How I Learned that Not Being Perfect is Not a Sign of Failure

The One Thing That Changed My Business

Hola gorgeous hearts!

One of the things that really inspired me (+ still does) when I’m down in the salt mines of my business, trying to work out the next step, is listening to the stories of other business women who’ve been where I am + have had an insight that’s helped them along.

With that in mind, I’ve asked a number of gorgeous, inspired, soulful business women to share their sacred AHA! moment – of the thing that changed their business.

Today’s insight is for anyone who finds themselves in the trap of perfectionism.

Lots of love,

How I Learned that Not Being Perfect is Not a Sign of Failure

For years and years I’ve held precious ideas for projects in my mind and images of what I wanted to create, if only I had enough time, if only I had more money, if only I had the skills to pull it off… and a myriad of different reasons why I currently couldn’t do it.

I was looking at other people that were doing things I wanted to do and getting opportunities that seemed to pass me by. I wondered why, and it made me very frustrated and depressed. I felt like an utter failure, trapped in a job that wasn’t making me happy, trapped in a life that I wasn’t truly enjoying.

When I first heard of Leonie and saw her work, I was amazed of just how many things she has published and how much following and opportunities she gained. I realized it did not just happen accidentally, and through reading more and more about how she works, and peeking behind the curtain of her business via her blog and her e-courses, I realized – she does not let her fears stop her. She just creates.

I wondered, what would happen if I just started creating?
If I stopped worrying that my art skills aren’t good enough yet, that my knowledge is not on high enough level to be shared on my blog and ebooks..?
If I stopped stressing so much about the quality of the end result and just be content with where I am right now?

Leonie’s advice was “Start where you are”.

What if I could just start, right here where I am, and see what emerges?

I’ve filled out the Creating Your Incredible Year workbook with my plans and step by step, I began following through on those plans. Sometimes it was gentle, little by little every day, and sometimes it was a wild donkey ride that demanded courage.

“Courage” was my word of the year 2013.

Screen Shot 2013-09-22 at 1.42.37 PMThe results were visible and measurable.

  • After years of thinking about coming back to blogging, I finally did it! Now I’m writing a couple of posts a month, sharing my insights with other people, and I’ve had wonderful feedback.
  • I finally started working on the paintings for my first solo art show, which I was putting off for years!
  • I made a habit of drawing every single day, to keep my creative muscles in shape
  • I got opportunities to work on projects I always wanted to do, like illustrate a children’s book and create T-shirt designs.
  • I invested in education that helped me figure out how to do this business thing
  • And I also invested in learning a healing modality that helped me go through the difficult times
  • I started a Business Mastermind Group with my entrepreneurial friends, because I realized how much brainstorming with other people helps, and that you don’t have to do it all on your own
  • I started using the sacred “No” more often because I have to say “Yes” to myself and make room for my own dreams, and last but not least…
  • I got out of my day day job to pursue my dreams full time!

I know now that my art doesn’t have to be perfect, that my blog doesn’t have to be perfect, and my business and life don’t have to be perfect. Even if things aren’t perfect, it doesn’t mean I’ve failed.

It will never be perfect.

This thought is both scary and freeing at the same time.

If I know that things will never be perfect, I can finally let go of that fear that I’m not good enough, and do things the way I’m capable of doing them right now.

Not wait for the perfect moment.

Not wait for an opportunity to fall into my lap.

Just showing up and doing my best is good enough.

How To Afford To Invest In Yourself

I’ve had LOTS of emails in the inbox this week.

Emails saying

I really really really want to be an Academy member

I KNOW how much a difference it will make in my business + life…

But I can’t afford it right now.

And I’ve seen first hand what a difference education can make in your life + business.

It has been WORLD CHANGING for me. My life + biz are totally a product out of me investing in myself.

And I’m very very passionate about the Amazing Biz and Life Academy – I know it’s the best way I can help you grow your own wildly abundant business + have a joyful, spirited, creative, wonderful life filled with lots of dreams come true.

Hands down I KNOW you will be a different person in a year’s time for choosing to invest… you’ll be so much closer to where you want to be in your life + biz.

So I wanted to make it EASY for you…

Here’s what you need to do if you think you can’t afford to invest in yourself…

#1: Adjust your mindset

That might sound really simple, and you’ll probably want to skip over this number all together.

But don’t. Because this is the MOST important of them all.

So often we look at something we want, then look at the price tag and say:

I can’t afford it.

And shazam. Just like that, game over.

Those four words put you in a place without choices. It puts you in victim mode, with the number on your bank account holding you ransom.

And you think:

Ahhhh well, there’s nothing I can do about that. The decision has already been made for me!

When that’s not true.

In fact, it’s bullshit.

Because you’re letting the decison being made for you, instead of stepping up and seeing other options.

So you need a radical adjustment mindset.

Instead of saying:

I really want to do this but I can’t afford it.

I really want to go to do this AND I will work out a way to afford it!

#2: Commit To Going After The Thing You Want

That’s right.

You need to COMMIT to making it happen.

You need to say

“that’s mine, and I’m going to do whatever I have to do to make it so.”

With Paradise House? I made a pledge to myself the moment I saw it:

That house is MINE.

(and here’s the really important part)

And I will do whatever I can to make sure it is mine.

This process of buying Paradise House? Has frightened the effing pants off me. It’s a massive leap in faith. And it’s required a metric shittonne of hustle from my end to make sure we had enough moolah to do it. It’s more than twice the size of a mortgage we’ve ever had before.

If we’d made the decision purely off our bank account, it wouldn’t have been possible.

But instead we made the decision because we knew it was destined to be ours, and we made that fucker dream come true happen. Because that was my oath:

“You are mine, and I will do whatever it takes to make it mine.”

I have IMMENSE faith that I can do anything I set my mind to.

I am a do-er. And I will prove to myself again and again that I can do whatever it is I dream of doing.

So the house is ours. And of course it is doable. Of COURSE I can make it happen.

Even when it seemed like a Really Big, Scary Thing at the time!

And it’s not just about taking chances with money either!

When I met my love, I absolutely didn’t believe it possible he’d be interested in me.

If I looked at my “bank balance”, I was seriously lacking – I was very young, I was shy + apt to blush every single time I saw him and I just didn’t really know if he’d ever be interested.

But there was something in me that claimed him as mine. And so I did whatever I had to to make him mine. I put myself really, really out there to make it so. I didn’t wait around. I took leaps of faith. I started sending him random emails. I asked him out on a date. And he said no. And yet still, I knew (not in a crazed stalker kind of way). A day later he asked ME out on a date. And we moved in together a month later.

Eleven years on, I’m glad I was a persistent, courageous bugger.

My faith is as strong as a mountain, and I can move them.

#3: What’s your return on investment?

If I said to you, I’ve got a briefcase here for you with $2000++++++ here. There’s probably a shittonne more in it to be honest. If you follow all the directions, this briefcase is going to change the rest of your business, income and life for many years to come. All you gotta do is swap it for a briefcase of $200, show up and do the work.

Would you do it?

Would you swap your smaller briefcase for the one that has ten times the amount of value in it?

Because that’s exactly what the Academy is all about.

Education has at LEAST 10x the amount of return on it

In my mind, it’s the best kind of investment there is.

When you align yourself with a coach, or an educational program to increase your business, you should see at LEAST 10x Return on Investment.

If you spend $100 on something, you’ll get at least $1000 back.

You’ve gotta do the work + you’ve gotta implement the advice…

But it’s all DOABLE.

What’s more, it’s thrillingly life-and-biz-changing.

What if the amount scares you?

I’m gonna be real here with you.

I have spent more than $50 000 on coaching + educational programs in the last 12 months.

I’ve given one of my business coaches the equivalent of two small cars.

And I freaked the flip out over the reality of doing that.

It was a MASSIVE step up. I had a good cry (or three) about just how BIG that step took.

And yet I knew absolutely, deeply in my heart that it was the right thing for me and exactly what I needed to be doing.

Here’s the thing:

Just because it’s right for you, doesn’t mean it won’t feel scary.

Especially when we are making massive leaps into the next level.

I KNEW that I needed a business coach to help me align with my biggest intentions + help me soar even higher.

And I made my money back that I’ve invested on coaching within two months… what’s more my business is now at a level I only barely glimpsed was possible. As we speed into a half million dollar a year company, I’m just SO grateful I took that leap of faith + committed again + again to investing in myself.

#4: Let’s Make This Shiz Happen

Okay, so you’ve aligned your mindset from:

“I can’t afford this!”

“I really want this + I will make it happen!”

You’ve decided to claim what it is you really want + make it yours.

And you’ve realised that investing in yourself has a MASSIVE return on investment for you, your life, your dreams and your business.

Now, what are you going to do to make it happen?

Your 5 Step Plan To Affording Anything You Want

  1. Write down EXACTLY how much you’ll need
Clarity is really important + immensely empowering in these situations.
  2. Commit to making it happen. That by hook or by crook, it is YOURS, baybee.
  3. Need to increase your cashflow?
Brainstorm the shizness out of how to bring it in.
What are you willing to do to make your goal happen?
Some ways to bring in cash flow:
Hold a sale. If you’ve got the Business Goddess program already, look over the Magic Money Making Kit + the Marketing Masterclass and USE them. Create a limited number of services or coaching or products to sell in a big one-off that will pay for it.
Want to know the number one way peeps pay their tax debts? They sell their crap on eBay or through garage sales. I have a friend who wanted to invest in a new camera, so looked around + sold some of her golf clubs to afford it. Another who sold some art + furniture to go travelling around Europe.
    It’s all DOABLE!
  4. Decide: Is credit cards or a loan a good option for a business investment? What would you do to trade in a small briefcase for that one that holds ten times the amount of gold in it?

Here’s how other successful people afford to invest in themselves:

A couple of my (very successful) business coaches have shared with me they started out by paying for coaching and events by credit cards. When I invested in coaching, I did it using a payment plan (which I offer in the Academy) and hustled my butt off to make the money to pay for it.

However anyone has managed to afford it, this is what EVERY successful soul in business I know says:

It’s a big leap to invest in it. And it’s the best thing I ever did for myself and my business. It has propelled my business forward that much faster.

So there you go love.

EVERYTHING you need to get you on your way.

Except this one last analogy:

If a magical unicorn came up to you, and whispered in your ear

“I can take you to your lands of dreams come true…”

Would you say

“Mmmmm yeah nah probably can’t afford your ticket price sorry LOL unicorn!”

Or would you make that shit happen?

Lessons Learned is What I Do!

Today’s insight is for anyone who is ready to jump in with both feet and yet is also ready to be flexible on the form of the results.

Lots of love,

Lessons Learned is What I Do!

My 40th birthday is right around the corner… in fact, good gawd! it’s so close it feels like one of those bomb countdowns that you see in movies!

Anyway, I’ve been doing that utterly clichéd thing where you look back on your life and sigh and pout and wonder “what-if…?” and think “shouldn’t I be master of the universe by now?”

But when I get in that mode, I quickly remind myself that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be in my continuum! A little over a year ago, I embarked on a small business idea which led me to a totally different small business idea and my current little business was born.

The catalyst for all of it was Leonie’s Business Goddess E-Course.

I won’t bore you with the back story but what I’m doing now is like the perfect storm of all my experiences – both personal and professional. I’m still working a day job but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel and I’m loving every minute!

Learning lessons has always been an important part of my internal guiding mission and it’s become an important part of how I help people in my business. Instead of going all “hindsight” on the last 40 years, today I decided to consider what I’ve learned over the past year – most importantly, from Leonie’s wisdom.

The lessons I’ve learned from Leonie’s enthusiasm pretty much boil down to three things for me. I think these things apply not just to business, but to life in general. I hope you have found the same wonderful inspiration from the Amazing Biz & Life Academy!

1. I must be MYSELF

The word “authenticity” gets thrown around a lot in entreprenuerial and spiritual circles. Frankly I’m a little sick of it because I think it has started to lose it’s oomph. Plus if you look up the dictionary definition, you may find that it doesn’t really mean what you think it does. But I digress…

I’ve simply learned that I have to be myself, no matter what, in order to help my business grow. I can’t try to imitate others who I think are successful. I can’t try to be a person who I think people will like.

I just have to be ME and do the things that are real expressions of ME.

Some people will really get ME. Some people won’t. That’s life. But I know I haven’t compromised anything important by being ME!

And the best part?

I’ve learned that no one else gets to be ME! Because it’s my job to be ME! It’s the same for YOU – there is only one YOU in the world and you get to be it! Isn’t that awesome?

Pretty much everything Leonie puts out in the world – even when she’s sick, stressed out or feeling overwhelmed – supports this lesson.

2. Just do it, already!

Ok, so I know Nike already used that line to death but I can’t think of a more concise way to say it. This sentiment applies to great ideas, dreams and desires, blog posts, artwork, creative efforts, public speaking… and everything in between.

I started my business because I knew in my heart that I had some important stuff to share. Stuff that I hoped would help and inspire other people.

But I’m also horribly human and I get wound up in fear and insecurity and vulnerability avoidance. I tell myself things like: “I can’t put this out into the world… it’s not ready… I need to do more work on it.”

Another famous one is: “I need to think this through more. I’m sure I will come up with another, better idea in the 11th hour!”

Procrastination and perfectionism are excuses. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that ideas don’t need time to develop. Or that I should rush and put things out that are sloppy or low quality.

But when I convince myself not to share the product of my talents and it’s really about being afraid of what people will think, I’m doing everyone a disservice. I’m selling myself short and I’m withholding a gift to others.

Fear and feeling vulnerable are emotions we probably never get over. But I’ve learned what I can do is: acknowledge that I’m afraid, recognize that it’s a valid feeling and then take a deep breath and put my work out in the world anyway.

Leonie’s Wild Donkey Guide was a great lesson in getting over myself and getting things done!

3. Bend like the willow

I think this might be a Zen saying but it’s something that stuck with me from a more scientific explanation. (I love images of Buddhist philosophy but ideas really get driven home for me when I get my nerd on!)

In catastrophic storms with high winds, the seemingly strong trees – like the mighty oak – are often broken and uprooted. On the other hand, soft, spindly trees – like willows – may get battered, but don’t suffer massive damage.

The reason for this is that the willow can bend, while the oak is rigid and stands against the wind until forces become too strong and it is defeated.

This analogy has become a touchstone for me because I’ve discovered my tendencies often run… ahem… contrary to flexible. In other words, I can be a total turd about change or the unexpected.

I’ve found that things often don’t turn out the way we really want them to. Being stuck on a particular outcome causes two problems. First, we don’t enjoy our journey if we are only focused on the outcome. You may not know it, but the journey is usually the best part!

Secondly, being rigid about a particular outcome is a recipe for disappointment. I believe that the Universe is programmed to fulfill our dreams when we are clear about them, and take action to make them happen.

But, the funny thing about our trickster Universe is that it usually fulfills dreams in ways that we least expect. So, I’ve learned that if I can bend like the willow, I can survive any difficult things that get thrown my way.

But better yet, I can easily bend toward the great stuff that the Universe presents to me! If I were rigid I would miss so many wonderful things!

I’ve been following Leonie for a long time and I feel like she’s probably arrived at this idea herself.

Her revelations about parenting and business and the adjustments she made have definitely shown me that she is not only a leader, but a lifelong learner of new and different approaches. That’s a great role model, indeed!
